Book Review : A Cross to Kill

Andrew Huff has a new novel out, the first of a series, A Cross to Kill. Think: James Bond/Jason Bourne/Max Lucado all merged into one persona. That is John Cross.

As a young adult I loved Robert Ludlum, as an adult and mom my family has loved Jason Bourne movies and of course we love Max Lucado! So this book is a nice blend of all three! It may seem odd, but you really have to give it a chance.

John Cross is a strong character who has a past he regrets as a CIA officer, and he is trying to chart a new course as a pastor of a small church. However the worlds merge in this first novel in a way that keeps you hooked! There is a strong message of forgiveness in this book, and John’s new faith is an amazing testimony of how God can change any heart. I did not feel like the book was preachy or forced at all, in fact I loved the strong spiritual element!

Christine is the heroin in the story, and we meet her in the opening scene when she is being held by terrorists ready to kill her. As her character revealed itself fully in the story, she was not the person I thought she would be. She is a strong female character that has integrity and honor and generously shares her heart with others. I really came to enjoy her character tremendously!

I really enjoyed this book and I will eagerly await Mr. Huff’s next novel Cross Shadow!

NOTE: I received a copy of A Cross to Kill in exchange for an honest review.
